Charlie and Sasha Fagan with the Seleneca Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring and being judges this year for the annual Prettiest and Ugliest Christmas Tree contest. Be sure to get your tree registered in time. Contact the Chamber for the submission form, so they will know to come visit your home or business.
Everyone enters the contest hoping they will win the “most beautiful” tree award. No one knows if they will get the honor of having made the “ugliest” tree. Last year’s winner of the ugliest tree was Boden Bauer, using plant stocks from the 11 o’clock Farm. Since the tree was made from organic material, it was shredded and composted shortly after New Year’s. He, like many of the past winners of the tree contest said upon winning, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
For those of you not from around here, or if its your first time here for Christmas, it is rare that anyone on the moon has a real Christmas tree, or even a nice Earthly artificial tree. The local tradition since the early days of lunar settlement has been to fashion a Christmas tree from found or available materials.
The deadline for registration is December 17th. The judges will be making the rounds to visit the trees on December 18th – 20th. The winners will be announced on the Chamber’s website December 24th.
