At their most recent meeting, Seleneca’s Board of Commissioners decided upon a soft opening for Central Park amid frustration over the continuing delay of the incomplete installation of the electronic display panels for the ceiling and being pressured by the community leaders and residents demanding the area within the City’s dome be opened. “All of us with businesses have been standing ready to open for months,” Ronni Bosch said at the microphone in front of the Commission last Monday. “We have people ready to get to work. It’s time!” she concluded. Ms. Bosch owns the brand new Heavenly D’Bites Café, opening at Central Park, #580, between 5th and South Streets. It is the sister restaurant to the older and very popular Earthly D’Bites Café on North Street and Asimov Ring. The Commission has been holding out, with the desire for a huge party under the dome with an amazing light and media display on the ceiling. “We will still have the big Celebration once we get the ceiling completely wired up,” said Commissioner Blanco.
Mayor Pierre appointed themself to organize the event. It took place this morning without a hitch. Groups of people gathered at the grand entrances at each of the four Cardinal streets. They numbered 180 to 400 people with the East and the West groups being the largest. Each group had one of the three commissioners standing at a red ribbon at each portal, with the fourth one being led by the City’s architect, Georg Mettler. At precisely 9 am local time, all four cut the ribbons and the four groups converged to the center of dome, where they were greeted by the Seleneca High School Band playing Selenca’s Anthem. Mayor Pierre made an uncommonly short speech, dedicating the Park to all those who came before us who contributed to its construction and to the current citizens and technicians who help finish it up. After the dedication, the crowd dispersed to explore the park and the buildings and businesses along the edges.
The Core Bar at the Galaxy Hotel was a popular destination since many know it already. It has been up and running for about a year already with access from the Grand Star Bazaar, but they were finally able to open their front door to the Park, and they opened their ‘outdoor’ seating for the first time. And at some point during the day, everyone climbed at least one of the two towers to get that bird’s eye perspective, and experience unfamiliar in Seleneca until now. At 12 noon, The Seleneca Company, the original founders of the City, and currently the largest real estate holders, unveiled the amazing giant statue of the City’s patron, the goddess Selene, clad in gold and quite shiny, presiding over the park on top of their pink art deco-ish office building at the 200 Block.
